Arcanum Solitarius

Arcanum Solitarius in play: a 5 × 5 grid of cards on a leather mat, with the arcana rail, deck, target score and the Arcane Blind header.

Poker solitaire with an arcane twist.

Every card belongs to two hands at once — the row it sits in and the column it crosses. Lines score the moment they fill, and the cards left behind become your next hand.

Free on Windows and Mac. Rather not install? Play it in your browser — no account, nothing to download — or on itch.io.

The living grid

2-dimensional poker hands.

Every card you place belongs to two hands at once — the row it sits in and the column it crosses. You're building five hands across and five down at the same time, and each placement decides which line a card serves and what it costs the other. Cards come one at a time, so you're always working with what the deck gives you, not what your plan wanted. You set out to build a Royal Flush and settle for Two Pair.

The 5x5 grid mid-run: illustrated court cards, a Joker, arcana curses, and the score climbing toward the target.

The Fool's journey

Discover the cursed arcana.

Corrupted tarot cards of The Fool's Journey that warp the playing rules and inflict scoring penalties. You face them in boss rounds. Purify them, or they pile up and keep penalizing every round that follows. Meet all 22 of the Major Arcana.

Power up

37 Jokers. Power-ups. Choose your strategy.

Build up your deck and playing board. Acquire Jokers, wild cards that add to your deck and rewire how your hands score with unique powers. Add chip bonuses to card suits with gems, and to grid cells with inlays. Add bonus multipliers to card ranks with sigils. But buying more upgrades is a tradeoff, because like any other poker game, your money is also your health.

The Marketplace: jokers for sale and owned, plus reagents to upgrade your deck.

Build the right engine and the scores get absurd — a Straight Flush for 1,122.

Rotate or fade.

When you control a whole grid of poker hands, Flushes and Straights get easy — so repeating a hand type carries a decaying half-life. Score the same hand twice running and it's worth half as much. Do it again and it halves again. Play a different hand and the others recover. Variety isn't flavor here; it's how you win.

A Straight scoring on the grid: the five contributing cards lit while the rest stay dim, The Empress named above them as the source of a +10% bonus, and the running total reading 90 chips times 6.2 mult.

Scoring is a celebration, not a receipt

The old dialog totalled your hand like a bank statement and never fit the genre. Now you watch every upgrade land as it's applied: gems, sigils, the jokers you built the run around, and the boss curse taking its cut. It should feel like a progressive video poker machine paying out.

The Steam page is live

After a while in review, it's through. The demo stays free and in the browser; native Windows and Mac builds are coming to Steam soon. Wishlists are how anyone else finds out the game is here at all.

There's a trailer now

A minute and three seconds, cut from two real runs, scored with the game's own music. Making it turned up something odd: two of the three demo bosses can only be described, not filmed.

The repetition explainer showing all four beats, ending with the healed row in green.

We shipped a tutorial that taught half a mechanic

The repetition screen showed every way a hand decays and never showed that a different hand heals it back. Accurate, well made, and teaching the wrong lesson. Incompleteness has no error state.

The World arcana card, upright: an ouroboros circling a dancing figure.

The demo is out

The World is the last card in the Major Arcana — the end of the Fool's journey. Antes 1 through 3, ending on the Empress boss, playable in your browser on desktop or phone.

The plain Joker card: a soot-faced jester in a singed grey costume.

The Joker who wandered into the wrong room

The newest card is just called "Joker" — no effect, cheapest in the shop, and the only one you can buy more than once. How you flood the board with raw wildness.

Be part of the magic.

The free demo is out now on Steam for Windows and Mac — Antes 1 through 3, ending on the Empress boss. We're building the rest in the open. Join the community in Discord to follow along, share what you think, and help shape where the game goes.
